About me

My name is Cindy Flim and I am a 7th and 8th grade math teacher in Wyckoff, New Jersey since 2001.  I may not be new to teaching, but  I am new to the math-twitter-blogosphere. I have a BS in Criminal Justice from Calvin College in MI and a BA in Mathematics from William Paterson University in NJ. I am married and have four wonderful kids, two of whom have followed in my footsteps, one with a math degree and one with a criminal justice degree. Now that my youngest has started college, I hope to use this blog  to keep me organized and improve my teaching abilities.  I also hope to give back to a community that has so richly inspired me.

  1. I saw a comment you made on another blogger’s post “Race to the Top” about using it for combining like terms. Can you share your method with me??

    1. I cannot take credit for the idea. I saw it on Katie’s Middle School Math Madness blog here. My students loved it so much and asked me to make more of those activities, which I was happy to do. I have also used it for adding, subtracting, and multiplying integers. I make a game of it. The first five students who get the correct answer get a piece of candy. They love the competition!
